Rouge is a chemical change – so a surface corrosion of stainless steel surfaces, and the simplest way to remove it is by using chemicals. Derouging and (re)passivation are purely chemical processes that use acid mixtures and oxidation agents. As soon as chemicals enter into the picture, safety becomes an important aspect. This is why ATECO only works with precisely defined chemical mixtures and it explains why we draw up an appropriate safety concept in advance.

Chemicals from safe sources

For derouging and passivation operations, ATECO only uses cleaning products and chemicals that are manufactured in processes that conform to GMP, in production facilities that are registered to FDA/ISO 9001, including complete batch traceability, documentation and an analysis certificate. The chemicals are delivered in standard containers, approved for transportation purposes, with the original seal including a type sheet and a safety data sheet. This is how we guarantee the absolute safety of the sources for our chemicals, in order to rule out any safety risks.

If you wish, ATECO will supply you with precisely defined chemicals for you to carry out any of these operations yourself. In this case, we shall recommend the products that we ourselves have been successfully using over the years for all our cleaning, derouging and passivation processes. For cleaning, we use a gentle but very effective alkaline cleaning product; for derouging, we use our special mixture based on phosphoric acid and chelates, and for passivation we recommend our effective mixture of nitric acid and chelates.
