de-rouging: before and after Derouging - the chemical "rouge-killer"

As soon as you discover rouge in an existing system, you might as well say that fire has broken out. To avoid contaminating systems and products, the layer of rouge has to be chemically removed. This procedure is known as derouging. To do this, ATECO uses chemicals that will not attack the stainless steel pipes.

Cleaning – flushing – derouging – flushing –
repassivation - flushing ......

that's the procedure for derouging followed by passivation. First, the stainless steel surface undergoes preliminary alkaline cleaning; the rouge is chemically removed and then the surface is repassivated. The entire system is flushed through in a closed circuit for this purpose. This thorough procedure means that you can forget all about rouge for a while, because the derouging operation removes the iron oxide coating and the repassivation builds up the protective chromium oxide layer again. Nevertheless, regular checks are needed to avoid any risk of rouge forming again.
