Pickling – protecting against oxidation and corrosion
Pickling stainless steel is used to protect the surface against oxidation and corrosion (rust). The pickling process is excellently suited for the secure removal of tarnishing around welded connections, scaling, iron particles from tools and extraneous rust, and to restore the original anti-corrosive properties. Stainless steel surfaces receive intense chemical treatment that strips anorganic chemical contamination. The media used here are usually based on hydro ouric acid and nitric acid. The acids react with the metal oxides to form water and with the corresponding metal salt to form hydrogen and metal salt.
